five-year partnership between Adequacy and the Data Circle for ethical data management

The result of shared values, the partnership between Adequacy and The Data Circle has just celebrated its fifth birthday. A look back at this commitment made with conviction by Christian des Lauriers, CEO of Adequacy.

Why did Adequacy want to become a partner of Cercle la Donne in 2019, just some time after the creation of this think tank, which in particular promotes the emergence of a European data sector based on excellence and ethics?

Data protection is an issue that we have always grounded in. With the arrival of the Internet, we have experienced the full force of the rapid evolution of the explosion of data, which is becoming an issue of regulation, control and global power relationships, in particular with the emergence of GAFAM and Asian giants.

It is all this thinking that led us to create Adequacy, to promote the virtuous use of personal data, and to make it a competitive advantage for our customers. In fact, we are convinced that good data management is a factor of trust for a company, with respect to its customers, partners, and citizens in the public sector.

We are delighted that a think tank like the Data Circle is bringing the idea to public decision-makers the idea that there is a need for more regulation. By becoming a Cercle partner, we want, as we already do as founding members of the Privacy Tech, contribute to bringing this voice to the authorities, and more broadly, we are once again affirming our visceral commitment to respecting our customers, partners and employees.

We have always attached great importance to exchanges between diverse profiles with varied experiences, which are always, in our opinion, factors of wealth. This multidisciplinarity that can be found within the Cercle, composed of DPOs from large groups, CISOs, IT directors and lawyers, all driven by the desire to rationalize the use of data, seduced us enormously. We are convinced that these exchanges are fruitful and we are delighted to also contribute our experiences and beliefs to participate in the work of the Circle.

Concretely, how does this partnership translate?

It is translated in a number of ways.
- First of all, a financial partnership, which aims to support the Data Circle, to enable it to develop its reputation, organize events, publish its studies and make them known to the press and public decision-makers
- In addition to this financial support, our teams are involved in working groups to contribute to the Cercle's studies, whose quality, precision and also their ability to be a source of proposals are appreciated. Thus, we have been fully involved for several months in the reflection and drafting of the current study, relating to the social and environmental footprint of data, which will be published next year.
- We finally speak out at certain Cercle events, for example “Data Thursdays”, the bimonthly meeting reserved for members and partners, in order to share our thoughts and expertise on certain subjects that are important to us. For example, we recently made participants aware of the exposure of minors and their data to the predatory techniques of big platforms.

Because we are convinced that contributing to raising awareness of these challenges is already a way to protect ourselves from them, this partnership with the Cercle, built over time, is fully in line with our desire to raise awareness on issues related to digital technology.
